The Golden Comet pullet is one of the finest brown egg layers available today. They mature early and lay eggs of excellent size and quality. The hen is an extremely quiet bird, that seems to be able to withstand the colder, non-insulated, laying houses of the small flock owner, better than most breeds. The Golden Comet pullet is golden red in color, but has some white feathers showing through in her neck and back.
Key characteristics of Golden Comet chickens:
Egg Production:
They are prolific layers, producing large to extra-large brown eggs, often exceeding 300 eggs per year.
Temperament:
They are known for being calm, docile, and friendly, making them good pets or backyard chickens.
Appearance:
Chicks are sexable by color, with pullets (females) being red and roosters (males) being white. Mature hens are typically golden red with some white feathers, especially in the neck and back.
Broodiness:
They are not known for being broody, meaning they are unlikely to naturally incubate their eggs.
Lifespan:
Golden Comets have a shorter lifespan than heritage breeds, typically living 4-5 years.
Adaptability:
They are adaptable to different climates and living conditions.
In short, Golden Comets are a great choice for those seeking a productive and friendly chicken breed, particularly for egg production.
